Rebuilding the Village: Why We Were Never Meant to Do It All Alone.

I have a theory.
I think we’ve drifted very far from the way human beings evolved to live. For most of human history, no one person was expected to do everything. We lived in villages. Some people gathered food. Some hunted. Some cared for children. Some cooked. Some repaired tools. Some tended the fire. The work of living was shared, and so was the emotional load of being human.
Today, we’re expected to do it all ourselves. We work alone, heal alone, clean alone, create alone, and struggle alone. I don’t think that’s how we’re designed.
Body doubling isn’t simply about productivity. It’s about remembering something ancient. When another regulated, caring human being is present, many of us find it easier to begin, easier to stay with a task, and easier to finish. Our nervous systems influence one another. Presence matters.
In our FlowState Body Doubling sessions, everyone brings whatever they’re working on. Maybe you’re paying bills, studying, writing, making art, organizing your home, or finally tackling that project you’ve been avoiding for months. We’re not there to judge each other or to perform. We’re simply sharing space while each of us does our own work.
Something beautiful happens when people come together with a shared intention. No one has to carry the whole day alone. I believe presence is one of the greatest gifts we can offer another human being. It’s not something we can manufacture, and it’s not something we can rush. Simply being with one another changes the quality of our experience.
This is more than a body doubling group. For me, it’s the beginning of rebuilding something we’ve lost. It’s the beginning of rebuilding village. It’s one small way of remembering that we were never meant to do all of this alone.
It’s also the beginning of what I hope the Center for Soulful Presence becomes: a community where people don’t just receive support, but become part of creating it together.
I’m excited to announce that we’ll be launching our very first FlowState Body Doubling session on Thursday, August 6, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. Eastern. The group will meet for one hour online.
If you’d like to join us, you can subscribe through the Center for Soulful Presence website. The subscription can be canceled at any time, so you’re free to participate for as long as it serves you.
If you’d love to attend but Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. don’t work for your schedule, please let me know. If enough people request another day or time, I’ll gladly add additional body doubling sessions.
We’re not just building better habits. We’re building community.
And I can’t wait to begin that journey with you.
Warmly,
Stacey
